Recapping the White House Correspondent’s Dinner

Every year, the media has a huge dinner, capped by an address by the president to chum it up and laugh at themselves. Usually it’s good for a few laughs, so I’ve laid out the best parts of the bits.

Here’s Obama’s full stand up set:

Highlights:

Obama ripping on Sanders and Hillary. Calls out Sanders for not falling in lockstep with his comrade, and Hillary for being unable to attract young voters.

Obama also took on Trump and how the media has covered Trump:

You can really hear the disdain in his voice when he says “I hope you are proud of yourselves” to the media. Very palpable awkwardness. President Obama does have a point, given that 2 billion dollars worth of free media coverage.

His mini film about what he will do post-presidency in DC was great as well:

A great way to end the White House Correspondent’s Dinner:

Larry Wilmore hosted the other half. His set was mostly aimed at the media in the room, and had very mixed reviews.

Personally I didn’t find it to be that funny, but there were two good moments.

Ripping on Ted “The Zodiac Killer” Cruz:

And his closer:

Of course, nothing will beat the WHCD that Stephen Colbert hosted where he absolutely roasted President Bush to his face.
